Durban, South Africa, December 11 & 12, 2000

The Women in Energy Ministerial Conference, in particular, recognises and acknowledges the fact that in most developing countries, women are primary energy users and consumers and the need for ministers to explore ways of using policy to empower women and promote safer and healthier technologies for women.

African Energy Ministers' Consultation Meeting
Durban, South Africa, December 13, 2000

The Pan-African Energy Ministers consultation meeting (private) will focus on ways of implementing the resolutions and the conclusions of the Durban 1997 UNECA meeting and taking forward the resolutions of the OAU forums on Energy; i.e., resolutions of the 1995 First Pan African Energy Ministers’ Conference.

Africa / US Energy Ministers' Conference
Durban, South Africa, December 14 & 15, 2000

The second Africa/US Energy Ministerial Conference (public) will have parallel sessions conducted by the private sector. These sessions will cover the following energy sub-sectors: Petroleum and Gas; Electricity and Power; New and Renewable Energy; and Energy & Environment (Clean Energy).

Hosted by the South African Department of Minerals and Energy.
The Women in Energy Workshop is being held in cooperation with the World Bank's Energy Sector Management Assistance Program, the World Bank's Regional Program for the Traditional Energy Sector, the United States Department of Energy, and Winrock International.

Outcome Of The Conference
The conferences are expected to take forward (implement) the two African Energy Ministerial Joint Statements (Statement on Code of Investment Principles for the Energy Sector and Statement on Clean Energy and Climate Change Cooperation) signed in Tucson in December, 1999.
