ODW Day 1: I Arrived in Philly
by Jennifer Z
OPERATION DAY'S WORK CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION
source: Operation Day's Work

George School, Philadelphia, PA •• July 22, 1999 •• SolarQuest® iNet News Service •• Pre ODW: Well, I know I will be going to Philly and learning about a organization called Operation Days Work(ODW), but thats about it. I have done as much research as I can before traveling to the conference. I have struggled a little with relating the MCFYP that I'm involved in and ODW. I have decided that MCFYP introduces youth to philanthropy on a local level, ODW introduces youth to philanthropy on an international level, both are creating a better future. I'm excited to learn more about ODW and more Youth in Action!

Saturday July 17, 1999: I arrived in Philly, and was greeted by Paul Austin, Marte Graff Jensen and Eivind Dahl. I enjoyed my trip to George School with them and learned a lot about Norway and ODW in the one hour drive. Once the four of us arrived we, the adults, facilitators, and guests had a meeting discussing the "design" and "agenda." The outspoken person that I am, I couldn't help but to give my opinion numerous times concerning the youth. I'm certain the week will come along nicely. Marte, Eivind and I talked a lot at George School. It was a wonderful evening. We discussed: philanthropy, youth, ODW, MCFYP, international affairs/relations, politics, personal endeavors/opinions, issues facing youth and society today. After the rest of the group returned from dinner, we talked in smaller groups about similar issues. It was a night of, openness, friendship and understanding, a perfect start to a week of cooperation among a diverse group of people. We all crashed after a tiring day of traveling.

Concluding Saturday: After an evening of discussion, I have a much better understanding of ODW. I'm looking forward to learning more about ODW and working with these people for the week.
