Ethel Monique Johnson: Introducing ...
by Ethel Johnson
US / Africa Energy Ministers Conference
source: Village Power 2000

Tucson, AZ •• Dec. 6, 1999 •• SolarQuest® iNet News Service •• I hail from Chicago, Illinois and am currently matriculating at Clark Atlanta University as a print journalism major. My expected date of graduation is July 1999.

Ever since I began attending Clark Atlanta, I have had some sort of involvement with the award winning campus publication, The Panther. From contributing writer, to staff writer, to movie editor, to my present position as editor-in-chief, I have been an intgeral part of its production.

In addition to working on The Panther staff, I have also freelanced for The Atlanta Daily World and have had the pleasure of interning at Upscale Magazine. While at Upscale, I had the opportunity to earn my first national byline and have had several since.

I have always been interested in journalism. I began writing for church newsletters, I wrote for my high school paper, The Beacon, and I also worked as a youth reporter for the Chicago Defender for four years.

My ultimate goal is to own and publish a magazine geared towards young, urban men & women of color.

I am very interested in Africa, specifically in its development. I have long thought that Africa harbors a welath of potential that just needs to be cultivated and if this conference will provide the ministers with ideas on development then I am estatic to be a part of it all.

Countries of specific interest to me are Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and Egpyt (the countries some consider to be regional "superpowers"). Although my knowledge of these countries and others, is limited to class related research and media related stories, I am open to any and all opportunities to learn all I can about the continent.
