I am a fourth year Chemical Engineering student at Howard University graduating in May 2000. My initial interest in Engineering stemmed from a desire to improve public health and enviroment by designing new commercial production processes. After working at the Department of Energy: Office of Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology this summer, I have expanded my interest into setting public policy and managing waste. I hope to work with African nations to strengthen and imporove their technological infrastructure in any way I can. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and like most Americans, my studies on Africa have only been initiated by personal interest so I have much to learn. I am most familiar with the Western countries and Ethiopia through friends and family. I only speak English and can understand a little Spanish. I am really glad to be involved with this Conference and have this opportunity to really find out the present situation in Africa.
