Carsceal M. Turner: The many facets of ...
by Carsceal Turner
US / Africa Energy Ministers Conference
source: Village Power 2000

Tucson, AZ •• Dec. 9, 1999 •• SolarQuest® iNet News Service •• Firstly, let us get straight on how my name is pronounced. Its "Carsell." Easy enough? Good. I am from the heart of the midwest, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to be exact. I am currently a senior broadcast journalism major at historic Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, FL. I have been writing stories and articles since the eighth grade.

I was a member of the newspaper and yearbook staffs consecutively. Thoughout high school I have been involved with anything that required writing. For three years I wrote stories for the Langston University Gazette while I was in the Upward Bound College Prep Program. While in College I have been a member of the award winning "Voice of the Wildcats" for three years first as a reporter and now as the features editor. I have also written articles for the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Journal and the Florida Public Relations Association newsletter. Features, news, sports opinion columns and editorials... I've written them all. I'm the type of writer that has a passion for getting his point across to those who may not have a decent handle on what is happening in the news.

My goal is to get my foot in the door writing for news/weather programs. Then, jump on the scene as a weather reporter for any station that needs someone crazy enough to report on the spot while a hurricane is brewing!

My interest in the conference evolves from the fact that this is not an area that I have yet tackled. The development of countries that have not had the same benefits as the United States in the way of energy usage intrigues me. Countries of specific interest include: Kenya because my newspaper advisor is a native, Egypt because While in the Navy we visited countries close to it but never reached it because of the Desert Storm conflict. Nigeria and Zaire are countries that arrouse my curiosity as well.

This conference will simply add to my foundation as a writer. There are too many benefits to name and so I will end right here.
