Durban, South Africa Dec. 8, 2000 SolarQuest® iNet News Service
I am an 18 year old, and I live in Kwamashu near Durban, South Africa. I am about to go into my final year in high school and I'm studying English, Afrikaans, Biology, Geography, Business Economics and Accounting. For the past year, I have been reporting for the Daily News which is Durban's biggest daily paper, I have done news stories, features, have written articles on the opinion page. Besides that, I have submitted my short stories to different national magazines so I'm very much into writing and I'm also a very experienced young journalist. I hope to become a professional journalist amongst other things because I don't want to concentrate just on one field and I would love to report and be more involved in more energy issues. I would love to go to many countries covering their issues, starting with Tanzania, a country that I love very much! I'm very interested in conservation because we have big problems with pollution and caring for the natural resources in our country. It has been an honor for me to report on the Africa/US Energy Minister's Conference 2000, taking place in Durban this week. I've enjoyed myself but have also found out a lot of information about the different forms of energy in different countries as I have had a chance to speak to lots of different ministers from different countries. Some of the subjects I have written about are Teenage morality, The relevence that school has to our future professions and life, the serious problem of HIV/AIDS South Africa, and yes as always being a typical teenager, I have reported on fashion trends and reigning beauty queens, cultural and pop groups. My favourite sports are soccer and basketball, in primary school I used to beat all the boys in soccer tournaments and still do!
