These are great ideas, Jim! Can I share them with the coordinator of the National Roundtable? On Friday, he asked me what I thought about the idea of roving reporters who could provide a report on the NTM to the National Roundtable. I told him that SolarQuest was pursuing this idea through the I-Net News Team and Youth Roundtable.

Subject: Proposed "Roving Reporter" Assignments
Message: Greetings folks!

I have scratched down a few ideas for what the INET News-team assignments might look like. If it seems like too much work , we could give students a list of items to choose from or we could make variable assignment length requirements for different age groups. Let me know what you folks think about this being the scope of work for the INET News-team of "roving reporters." As for the students' schedule, pressroom logistics, and other sequence details, I think it will all unfold more easily once we figure out the scope of work.

These assignments serve a dual purpose of getting students in the thick of things for exposure as a Youth Roundtable Delegate as well as documenting the event through the eyes of youth as a INET News Reporter. I strongly suggest we think about getting select items of student work published in the proceedings as well.

INET News-team assistance will be provided by Youth Roundtable Support Staff and Virtual Schoolhouse technology training will be provided by SolarQuest Staff. The following assignments are designed to enhance learning before, during and after the NTM experience and tell the story of Sustainable America's NTM through the eyes of the nation's youth:

Biographical Statement (20) - This will be completed by the Delegates/Reporters prior to the NTM. It will provide standardized information categories that tell more about each youth, their interests and the role of students in the America's sustainability agenda.

Learning Session/Plenary Reports (10) - Ten learning session reports will be completed at the event, each by a team of two Delegates/Reporters. These will document the youth perspective on various learning sessions.

VIP Interview (10)- Ten interviews will be completed, each by a team of two Delegates/Reporters. These will give biographical and opinion information about key players in the NTM event and/or the sustainability movement.

Feature Stories (40) - Each Delegate/Reporter will complete two feature stories on some aspect of the presentations in the Exhibit Hall, on Field excursions, during evening activities or in any other aspect of the NTM event. These may range from human interest stories to technical reports and are designed entirely by the students.

Report to the National Roundtable and the President's Council for Sustainable Development (1)- This will be a collaborative document prepared by all members of the Youth Roundtable with assistance from Youth Roundtable Support Staff. It will be carried to and presented in the National Roundtable by 2-3 Youth Delegates acting serving in a liaison capacity to bring together the two groups.

Bringing It Home (20) - Following the event, Delegates/Reporters will complete a report which presents their experience at the NTM to their home community. This may be submitted in local publications.

...

Just some ideas. Obviously, feedback is essential. Let me know where you think we should go from here.
