Local Student(s) Selected for the Youth Roundtable and INET News-team at the National Town Meeting for a Sustainable America.

The President's Council on Sustainability and the Global Environment and Technology Foundation will be co-sponsoring the National Town Meeting for a Sustainable America. On May 2-5, 1999, in Detroit, Michigan and points across America we as a nation will begin this process by first focusing on solutions being generated in our own hometowns, backyards and businesses. The National Town Meeting is being held to engage all Americans in charting a course for prosperity in the years ahead. Estimated attendance is 3,000 in Detroit with thousands more participating in concurrent events via satellite and the Internet throughout America.

The event will focus on the Goals, Themes, and Strategies for America to make the transformation to a sustainable society as we enter the 21st Century. The program will feature over 100 educational programs, highlight best practices, and present case studies of communities throughout the nation working to achieve sustainability. Youth have an integral voice to be heard as our nation begins this process by first sharing solutions being generated in our own hometowns, backyards and businesses.

The National 4-H Council and SolarQuest have selected 20 students from around the nation to identify, discuss and write about this exciting event. _________________ has been selected from your community as a Youth Roundtable Delegate and INET News-team Reporter for the Sustainable America Program’s National Town Meeting. In serving on the National Town Meeting’s Youth Roundtable and INET News-team, these students will have unique opportunity to voice their opinions as representatives of the America’s youth, and share their experience at this event with members of their local and national community.

Concrete progress toward a more sustainable future will emerge from the National Town Meeting. Many participants will come in search of ideas to maintain good communities, protect the environment, spend public resources wisely and achieve growth efficiently. Others will have solutions to share. The meeting will match needs with solutions, creating the building blocks fora better quality of life. During the event the Delegate/Reporters will be interacting with professionals, government officials and representatives from non profit organizations in helping to develop a national sustainability agenda and plan for action.

Please see www.sustainableamerica.org for more information on the National Town Meeting and www.solarquest.com for reports from and other information about the Youth Roundtable and INET News-team.
