Task 008: GETF Newsletter 3/19/99 Due Date: 3/23/1999 |
From: pcsd2@getf.org [SMTP:pcsd2@getf.org]
Wednesday's NPC meeting went quite well. Our rescheduled meeting naturally had lower attendance than we would have seen on the original date. Rather than inundating you with lengthy minutes, this memo's purpose is to give a quick synopsis of the meeting. Per Carol Browner's request, EPA Chief of Staff Reid Wilson expressed gratitude for the NPC's role in planning the NTM. Mr. Wilson emphasized that the NTM could not have better timing with the national attention being generated recently on quality of life/sustainability issues. Beth Viola, Public Liaison for the White House Council on Environmental, thanked the NPC on behalf of the White House. Vice President Gore has been mentioning the NTM in his speaking engagements around the country, and will be on the program in Detroit. We ended our opening remarks with a discussion of the very successful press conferences that announced the NTM that day in Detroit, Washington and New York. Speakers from federal, state and local governments, corporations and non-governmental organizations delivered inspiring messages about the importance of this issue as we approach the millennium, and highlighted the NTM's role in elevating that issue. The planning committee and working groups have been essential in formulating and planning the NTM since February of 1998. Now is the time for the final contributions which will ensure that the effort you've given thus far bears the fruit it deserves. Among other items, NPC members and associates were asked to complete the following tasks, where appropriate and possible: 1) Send brochures to your mailing list. We still have some left! The quicker, the better. 3) Register to attend. 5) Register your commitment to sustainability, no matter how large or small, through the website's "Building Blocks" section. These sustainability commitments will be a major legacy of the NTM. Registering for attendance, exhibits and making commitments (Building Blocks of the Future) is very easy on the NTM website - http://www.sustainableamerica.org. If you haven't already, please complete the following fax-back form indicating what actions are in process, and what additional materials or information you need from us. Please also feel free to call Tom Dietsche for assistance, 202-408-5086. Thank you very much, and I look forward to seeing you in Detroit. ___________________________ PLEASE COMPLETE AND FAX TO: Tom Dietsche, PCSD FAX: 202-408-1655 FROM: _______________________________________________________________ Tasks that I will commit to doing in order to ensure the NTM's success: (check all that apply) OUTREACH: BUILDING BLOCKS OF THE FUTURE: EXHIBITS: AFFILIATED EVENTS: ___ Submit names of people from my organization who would like to speak at affiliated events in my region.
