TIME MAGAZINE Denis Hayes, national coordinator of the first Earth Day in 1970 and chair of Earth Day Network, will be profiled in this Monday's Time Magazine as a Hero of the Planet. Here are a few of the activities that are helping to launch the Earth Day 2000 Clean Energy campaign: 4/19 Earth Day 2000: New Energy for a New Era forum at Harvard University. A unique coalition of students, faculty and administration will unveil an ambitious clean energy plan for Harvard University. Denis Hayes will lead a distinguished panel in a discussion of the energy solutions that will lead to a clean and affordable energy future for each of us. 4/22 Launch of the Earth Day 2000 Worldwide Campaign at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. A press conference announcing the launch will be followed by an awards ceremony and luncheon at the United Nations. Speakers at the press conference will be: Denis Hayes, Chair, Earth Day Network Bill Richardson, US Secretary of Energy Klaus Toepfer, Executive Director, UN Environment Programme Ray Anderson, Chairman and CEO, Interface Inc.
