Report: Homepage Revision Ideas |
The visual impact thing is right on, and I think we can benefit greatly from a homepage that fits on the screen. This is the case when I view the current homepage, but it depends on the font size selected by individual browsers.
Navigator concept looks good. I like the idea of teacher and students tracks, but should we include something more explicitly for INET News, like reporter and reader tracks, as well? Unfortunately, we have very little in the way of classroom activities to work with. We need to have more discussion on this concept, what is our vision of it is and how can we begin to create more material. Providing solid academic educational material takes a greate deal of research if it is to be well prepared. On the student track, I would like to create material around the notes I sent on "roving reporter" assignments. David is sharing these ideas with the coordinator of the National Roundtable, so we should have a solid foundation from which to build the delegate/reporter track. As well in the student track, I do not understand the reference to fundraising and Adventure Quests. As for fun interactive activities, I would suggest the E-footprint calculator, or the carbon calculator (not yet in the Quests) as they provide solid comprehension as will link directly to key concepts in displays at the Exhibit Hall As for general comments, consistent icons would be good. If we use a smaller NTM logo, I suggest changing this throughout the schoolhouse Goal Quests as the logo currently takes up a great deal of space. The "Voice of America's Youth" idea is good too. Finally, one radical idea. Should we change the layout of the schoolhouse itself, or move NTM to its own schoolhouse? It would be nice to give their logo top line billing since it is the focus of the whole thing. We could put the SQ TM logo somewhere less prominent, but big and by itself it tends to flaunt the for-profit feeling in a way which I think detracts from our message. How do we proceed from here? I would love to assist Ron with layout drafts and am open to tossing ideas around a bit more. |
