Report: Educational Background And Experience Submitted By Mavis D.
I presently attend Bethune-Cookman College where I am pursuing a double major in physics and chemistry.

I have experienced many uses of energy in the United States and believe these uses will help part of the energy needs of Africa should some of these procedures be adopted in Africa.

  • As a fellow of the Energy Research For Undergraduate Laboratory Fellowship (ERULF), I interned during the summer of 1999 at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (SSRL), where high energy X-rays are produced and used by scientists around the world to probe matter.

  • Taking a class in the fundamentals of environmental and occupational health, I studied irradiation for the safe reuse of water and waste water.

I have a special interest in African energy issues because being an African (a Ghanaian) I am aware of the tremendous energy needs of the continent. An example is the use of solar energy to provide clean pipe-borne water and electricity.

My region of interest will be mainly West Africa, that is, Burkina Faso, Chad, Cote d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Senegal, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, The Gambia, and Ghana.

I speak Twi and Ga (Ghanaian languages) very well and a little French besides English.

Review:
It is very interesting that members of our team are natives of Africa. With this background, you will help us make the iNet News Team's reporting relevant to the times.
