Task 01: HOME PAGE Due Date: 3/19/1999 |
Ron, This may be totally off-base as I am getting tired, but I think there is some merit to at least a few suggestions here. I hope you will follow my intent, not my instructions! 1. CURRENT HOME PAGE:First, the old home page and the application. It would be helpful to archive this page for reference during the March 26 meeting at the PUC in Vermont. I want to demonstrate a track record for a school application process utilizing the schoolhouse. I am concerned that we will run into a problem using the schoolhouse for the application process if we are unable to demonstrate that it has been used successfully in the past.
3. VISUAL IMPACT: I have been noticing that it is extremely important to get the key message to the top of the screen, as Ray suggested. When I have been viewing our site from other computers, I have noticed that you have to scroll to get to the key message. We want to achieve a one time reading to get to the SolarQuest Navigator page and get the key message across. 4. LOGO: Here is the logo I am suggesting for the home page: PCSD NTM Index Page. This gets the message across, including key sponsorship. (Nobody knows GETF!) The Star logo and the printed PCSD and NTM descriptions are critical to place just as they are. I would not link this to the PCSD. We want everyone to go to the SQ Navigator page first. 5. HOME PAGE TEXT: CALL TO ACTION (Center, bold, blue and link to SQ Navigator.) Welcome to SolarQuest! Please join the Journey to Detroit. ENTER HERE to state your vision, register a commitment for a Sustainable America, and meet the Youth Delegates to the National Town Meeting. 6. TRACK SELECTION PAGE: By clicking on CALL TO ACTION or ENTER HERE (or ENROLL HERE, enter here works better if someone is already enrolled) the viewer goes to the first page of the SQ Navigator, where the teacher track or student track could be selected. 7. SQ NAVIGATOR (PAGE 1): Repeat the NTM home page logo. Below the logo divide the page into teacher track (left) and student track (right) with text as follows: TEACHER TRACK Follow the TEACHER TRACK to register your school in the SolarQuest Virtual Schoolhouse, explore learning opportunities on the SolarQuest web site, and create Quests to help your student learn about Sustainability.
Follow the STUDENT TRACK to meet the Youth Delegates to the National Town Meeting, state your vision for a Sustainable America, and participate in Quests about Sustainability. 8. SQ NAVIGATOR (PAGE 2a)-TEACHER TRACK: Items for the teacher track are: A. SQ Schoolhouse Enrollment Instructions: (How do we handle "Authorization to Fund Raise.") C. Guide to SQ Schoolhouse Management 9. SQ NAVIGATOR (PAGE 2b)-STUDENT TRACK: A. SQ Schoolhouse Enrollment Instructions: (We should get them to register their commitment to the I-NetNews Team at the enrollment level. It would be great to have an identified member community to support fund raising and determine qualification for AdventureQuests.) B. Vision Statement: Instructions linked Youth Roundtable Delegate Quests. C. Commitment Statement: Instructions linked to GETF/PCSD commitments database. Provide linked list to SQ challenges in the PCSD curriculum. D. Fun Internet activities in the SQ PCSD Quests.
It would be nice to have some consistent logos or icons through these levels of pages, if in fact you really follow such a layout as I am describing. I would be great to take the NTM circle logo and reduce it to bullet size to place in front of paragraphs. Also, it would be good to somehow integrate the theme of "The Voice of American Youth" in the home page. I am too tired to be creative on this score. Also, we need to have a place where Detroit area schools can go to register - in the teacher track. By the way, I like this link: PCSD NTM Index Page better than the one we are using now. GOOD NIGHT!!
